ISPC Polygraph Training 2019 – Cape Town

The International Polygraph Studies Centre (ISPC) kicks off its 2019 training schedule in Cape Town with Basic Polygraph Training from March 11^th to May 17^th, 2019. It’s a foundation course which will equip you with the necessary skills to conduct polygraph assessments for private companies, intelligence services, military structures, law enforcement agencies, and government departments.

What is polygraph testing?

You’ve probably seen a film or TV episode depicting a suspected criminal strapped to a polygraph device with an interviewer asking pointed “yes” or “no” questions. While that bears some resemblance to reality, it isn’t the complete picture.

The polygraph device measures a number of physiological characteristics including blood pressure, perspiration, pulse, and so on. That’s it, nothing more.

At the heart of polygraph testing is the interviewer or, more formally, the polygraphist. Aside from interviewing the subject, the polygraphist’s job is to analyse the results recorded by the polygraph machine to detect any subtle changes in the subject’s physiology during each question. With sufficient quality training under his or her belt, the polygraphist makes a determination on the likelihood of deception.

Where is polygraph testing used?

Polygraph testing is used wherever truthfulness plays a critical role. Polygraphists are hired to help businesses vet prospective employees, employees in positions where sensitive material is concerned, and to further internal investigations (e.g. stock theft, corporate espionage, etc.). Polygraph examiners are also employed by law enforcement, legal, and government agencies to assist with investigations and other cases.

Deception detection has a place in the home, too: domestic polygraph testing is often used to verify the fidelity of spouses, or to screen domestic employees for syndicate affiliations.
